Chennai Telephones which was the leading BSNL (Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited) office a few years ago, has not been faring so well recently. According to reports, 43000 customers gave up their BSNL numbers in the year 2012-13. These were with regard to landline numbers.

According to an official, ‘The inordinate delay in paying contractors’ bills is adding to the existing chaos. BSNL has outsourced the repairing of BSNL cable faults and due to payment delay contractors don’t attend faults forcing customers to annul their landline sets.’

However, another senior official said, ‘It takes the usual procedural time for settling bills and there is no delay. Public complaints are attended at the earliest. With the craze for cellphone surging and available without any monthly rent, customers are shifting to mobile phones. However, the BSNL internet broadband is doing well in the market and this shows our commitment to our customers.’
