The board examinations for the students of class12 would begin from 3rd of May 2021 is known to us now. This examination schedule has made many academicians and educationists unhappy because the teachers and students would have less time to cover all the portions.
It is worthy to note that the school education department in association with SCERT have released truncated syllabus for class 12 and according 45% of the syllabus has been reduced.
The elections in TN are expected to take place before the board examinations and academicians and educationists are now worried about the teachers deployed for poll duties. This would affect the classes for the students studying in the government schools.
Most students belonging to the state run schools have failed the assessment test that was conducted after the schools were reopened. The portions have to be covered for them. This was mentioned by a senior official belonging to the school education department. Before the board examinations, it would be difficult to complete the entire syllabus for the students at the government schools. This was pointed out by Mr. P.K. Illamaran, president, TN Teachers Association. He added that the board exams must be conducted in June or in July months as it would give enough time for the syllabus completion.
It must be taken into account that the parents of the students of class 12 belonging to the government schools would be under severe pressure due to time shortage. As per Mr. P.B. Prince Gajendra Babu, general secretary, State Platform for Common School System, SPCSS-TN, said that holding examinations in May month was a mechanical attempt to complete the academic year.
He threw light on how the schools in TN reopened on 19th January and how conducting board exams on 3rd May would be highly stressful for students as well as for the teachers.
