The Tamil Nadu Government has announced the launch of Amma mineral water which will be sold in long distance buses and bus terminals for Rs. 10 a litre. Water is sold at Rs. 15 at railway stations and Rs. 20 (at the least) in the open market.
‘In an attempt to ensure quality and safe drinking water to the poor and the middle class, Amma mineral water production units across the state will be managed by the transport corporation. A production unit would be established in Gummidipoondi, with a capacity of 3 lakh litre per day, and the required equipment would be procured by the road transport corporation. The first unit will be operational on the occasion of birth anniversary of Dravidian ideologue and former CM C. N. Annadurai on September 15’, said an official press release.
