The second Coronavirus wave has hit the city of Chennai hard!!
The number of cases have been rising alarmingly in Chennai is a well known fact. There are many night shelters in Chennai and many people have been using these shelters regularly.
Now, these night shelters in Chennai are on high alert and there is now a huge risk of infection getting spread from the new inmates rescued from the streets. The new inmates who were rescued from the streets are now subjected to Covid-19 tests. This was mentioned by the coordinator of the Egmore shelter. A staff hinted that the sanitary inspectors bring their mobile testing units and the new inmates get tested for the infection.
The sanitary staff in the respective wards or the sanitary officers coordinate with the shelter staff to vaccinate inmates above 45 years of age. Point is that almost all of them have been covered till now. The staff mentioned that these inmates would be sent to permanent shelters that do not accept new members without Covid-19 tests.
