Sudha Ragunathan chosen for Sangita Kalanidhi

Vocalist Sudha Ragunathan, who has evolved a mellifluous singing style of her own, has been chosen for the Sangita Kalanidhi award of the Music Academy for 2013.

A postgraduate in economics, Ms. Ragunathan learnt music first from her mother V. Chudamani, and then came under the tutelage of B.V. Raman. She also excelled in academics and won the outstanding student award three years in a row when she pursued her undergraduate studies at Ethiraj College. She was with late M.L. Vasanthakumari for 13 years and accompanied her in many concerts.
 
A Padma Shri awardee, winner of the Isai Perarignar award of the Tamil Isai Sangam and the Tamil Nadu government’s Kalaimamani, Ms. Ragunathan has won awards instituted by many of the sabhas in Chennai.

Ms. Ragunathan will preside over the 87 annual conference of the Music Academy between December 15, 2013 and January 1, 2014. She will be conferred the award at the Sadas on January 1.
