Chennai to renovate 10 lakes with water sports and boating facilities under new project

The Chennai Metropolitan Development Authority (CMDA)  has announced a new project named `lake front development` to rehabilitate 10 lakes in Chennai at a cost of Rs 100 crore. This initiative is part of the ongoing efforts to rehabilitate water bodies in Chennai, with organizations including the Chennai Municipal Corporation and Water Resources Department working on similar projects.

The 10 lakes set to be renovated under this new project are Perumbakkam Lake, Retteri, Mudichur Lake, Madambakkam Lake, Sembakkam Lake, Velachery Lake, Adambakkam Lake, Ayanambakkam Lake, Koluthar Lake, and Puzhal Lake. The renovation will include the addition of a footpath and bicycle path around the lake, outdoor gymnasiums, gardens, parking lots, children`s playgrounds, outdoor theaters and arenas, water sports facilities, fishing spots, bird watching areas, and Miyawaki Forests.

The CMDA also plans to introduce boat rides to enhance the recreational value of the lakes. This project is expected to significantly improve the condition of the lakes and provide citizens with better access to leisure activities.
