The Perungalathur flyover works should have been completed by this year but the lack of cooperation between Highways dept and the state forest dept has led to delay in the works. This has made many motorists and passengers unhappy now. It has been 8 long years since the flyover construction works began and still the works have been going on at slow pace only.

It must be realised that in 2002 the state Highways dept had allotted Rs 86 cr for this flyover construction project. Now, the cost of the flyover construction works has increased to rs 200 cr but the work remains incomplete only. Initially, there were some issues regarding the place where the flyover would be constructed. Truth is that the Highways dept closed the LC32 railway level crossing and began the flyover works. The cost estimate was revised and increased to Rs 234 cr after the Covid lockdown  and assurance was issued to complete the flyover works by 2021.

Inauguration of first arm of the Perungalathur flyover on the GST Road towards Tambaram was done by the chief minister of TN Mr. MK. Stalin in September 2022 is known. At that time, it was brought out that another side of the flyover would be completed and would be opened for the public use.

It is learnt that the construction works on Srinivasa Nagar has been going on but the works on the other side on Kamaraj Nagar hasn`t yet started. Now, the public are suspecting that the flyover works might take a few more years to get completed.
