On Thursday night, the airport at Chennai was full of activities. The reason for this was due to the diversion of as manya s 14 flights from Bengaluru to Chennai as there was heavy rains in Bengaluru that made the flights impossible to land there.
Near midnight, all of a sudden more flights came to Chennai airport and the officers present at the airport did tremendously to manage the situation by deploying more staff to the runway.
It is learnt that due to heavy rains in Bengaluru Indigo Airlines flights from Kolkata, & Delhi that were scheduled to land at 10:30 pm, Air India flight and Air Asia flight from Delhi, an Indigo Airlines flight from Chennai that was supposed to land at 11;10pm plus many flights from Mumbai, Surat, Bhubaneswar and international flights from Kuala Lumpur and Hong Kong etc were diverted suddenly to Chennai.
The Chennai airport was already very busy as many flights from foreign countries landed in Chennai around midnight. As a result, there was not enough manpower available to handle 14 flights that landed at Chennai unexpectedly. Those staff who went to their homes after their work got over were called by the senior officers at the Chennai airport. These staff managed the situation efficiently.
