Previously, the total length of the metro stations in phase-2 was 118.9km. Now, CMRL has rescued it to 116km and it has also reduced the number of metro stations to 118 now from 128 earlier. This has caught the attention now. It is worthy to mention that just 2 days back the High court of Madras has ordered CMRL to publish a revised route alignment map. Now, CMRL has uploaded the map.
There are some changes that are made now to the corridors in the phase2 project. Earlier the Corridor 3 from Madhavaram to SIPCOT was 45.8km but now it has been reduced to 45.6km.
In the same way, Corridor 5 from Madhavaram to Sholinganallur that was 47kms long has been shortened to 44.6kms. There has been no changes made in the length of the Corridor 4 between Poonamallee and LightHouse and it will remain same as 26.1km
As per a CMRL officer it was clear that Corridor 3 would have 47 stations, Corridor 4 would have 27 stations and Corridor 5 would have 44 stations.
Information collected is that the stations that were dropped were Meenakshi College,Thapalpetti, St Joseph College, Foreshore Estate, Doveton Junction, Natesan Park, Medavakkam and Kaliamman Koil Street etc.
It was later explained by another officer from CMRL that many stations such as Medavakkam, St Joseph College and Doveton Jn etc were dropped because they were too close to each other. He added that other constraints have also led to the change in the alignment.
