Crossing the heavily congested Usman Road in T.Nagar would be a jiffy in the future , thanks to the flyover that will be coming up!!
The GCC or Greater Chennai Corporation is now having plans to construct a longest flyover in T. Nagar in south Chennai. It is important to mention that this 4km long steel and concrete hybrid flyover would be connecting the busy Anna Salai directly with Mahalingapuram through CIT Nagar. Information collected is that the traffic time would be reduced from 30 minutes to just 5minutes while crossing this stretch.
There is also another long flyover of 3.2km that has been proposed and it would connect Teynampet and Saidapet. It is learnt that GCC is now constructing a Rs 130 cr flyover of length 1.2km and it would be connecting CIT Nagar with the present Usman Road flyover.Poijt is that when this flyover gets completed then GCC would link it with Mahalingapuram flyover. The flyover would be 4km in length once Kodambakkam and CIT Nagar points get connected. There would be atleast 4 entry and exit points. The 4km flyover construction work would start in 2024 and would complete by the end of 2024.
It was mentioned by the GCC chief engineer Mr. S. Rajendiran that the junction at T. Nagar bus terminus would be decongested once the CIT Nagar- Usman Road flyover gets completed. In this stretch, the Kodambakkam- Bazullah Road Junction would be the only sore point. For the vehicles to go left, a down ramp exit would be provided in the new flyover at the Viveks junction. For the vehicles to go towards the Arcot Road, another exit would be provided on the service lane. About 10,000 vehicles pass through the stretch every hour and this was according to data from GCC.
