Latest important announcement from MTC in Chennai!!

The important piece of news that has come out now is that MTC or Metropolitan Transport corporation has approved a compensation of Rs 10 lakhs to the employees who die while at work.

For a long time, the families of the MTC workers (who have worked in the branches and in the divisional offices belonging to MTC) have been receiving amount  directly from other co-employees when ever MTC workers die due to accidents that occur in the workplaces, road accidents, natural deaths or due to illness etc is known.

As this procedure was not uniform, the unions wanted the transport administration to come out with another plan. Yesterday, a consultation meeting was held for this purpose with the Union representatives at the headquarters of MTC in Pallavan Road in Chennai. The meeting took place under the leadership of MTC Managing Director Mr. Gunasekaran.

The meeting witnessed participation of representatives from 30 unions like LPF, MLF, AITUC, CITU etc. In the meeting, a new scheme named Metropolitan Transport Corporation  Death Benefit Scheme was formed according to the consensus of all the union representatives.

About the new scheme:

It must be noted that as per this new scheme all the workers, drivers, conductors, supervisors, workmen and officers working in the branches, workshops and head offices of MTC would be paid a fixed amount to their legal heirs incase of road accidents, workplace accidents, natural death or illness etc.

An amount of Rs 10lakhs would be given in case of death of an employee during work. An amount of Rs 5 lakhs would be given incase of death of an employee due to natural causes, sickness and death and Rs 2lakhs would be given in case of death for repairmen during their work. From 1st September, this new scheme would be implemented.
