The end of this September month would witness the completion of 6 lane work of 23.4km Maduravoyal to Sriperumbudur stretch. This was brought out by the status report filed by NHAI or National Highway Authority of India. It is noteworthy that this work is being carried out by the TN State Highways Dept`s NH Wing at a cost of Rs 463cr.
Information gathered is that the widening work of 34km Sriperumbudur- Karaipettai section of NH4 for Rs 654 crores would be completed by 31st of October. By the end of 2023, the work of the 36km Karaipettai- Walajapet section for Rs 533 crores would get completed.
The first bench comprising of Chief Justice Gangapurawala and Justice PD. Adhikesavulu posted this case to the 3rd of October (after admitting the status report filed by NHAI) to verify whether the work on the first stretch was completed as assured through the status report. It is worthy to note that a report was filed by NHAI seeking to lift the court`s order on collecting only 50% of user fee at 2 toll plazas due to poor stretch conditions.
The stretch between Poonamallee and Sriperumbudur has improved but the stretch works between Sriperumbudur and Wallajapet are incomplete. This was explained by a Porur based resident who visits his native place Vellore frequently. He was unsure regarding the completion of all works by the end of 2023. It must be recalled that the chief minister of TN Mr. MK. Stalin had written a letter to Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Mr. Nithin Gadkari regarding the bad condition of Sriperumbudur- Walajapet section of the highway and requested him to interfere to expedite the 6 lane works.
