In the Nilgiris district is present the Nilgiris Mountain railway that was constructed by the British in the year 1908. Operated by Southern Railways, this Nilgiris Mountain railway is the only rack railway in entire India. The train journey is 46km from Mettupalayam to Ooty. This train was cancelled for the last 12 days due to the repair work of the railway track. The railway track was damaged due to rock and soil collapse due to heavy rains here.
The superb news is that the Nilgiris Mountain train has resumed its services once again from yesterday 19th November 2023 onwards. It must be recalled that on the 7th of November between Kallaru and Adderli railway stations rocks and soil fell down on the railway track. As a result of this, the train services were cancelled from 8th to 16th of November. As the railway track maintenance work was not completed fully, the train services were cancelled for an additional 2 days.
Point is that the above said work has been completed and the train services have begun since yesterday. On Sunday, 19th November, Nilgiris mountain train left Mettupalayam to Ooty at 7:10am with 184 passengers. The tourists who travelled in this train were happy and excited.
