From today 7th December onwards, the EMU or suburban train services would run normally. This was announced by the Chennai Railway Division.
From 7th December, the suburban train services would run as per the scheduled time table in Chennai Central- Arakkonam, Chennai Beach- Chengalpet and Chintadripet-Velachery MRTS sections. It must be noted that in the Chennai Central, Chennai Beach-Sullurpeta. Gummidipoondi sections in lieu of regular services special train services would be operated from Thiruvottriyur- Sullurpetta/Gummidipoondi with a frequency of 30 minutes.
The heavy inundation of rails at the Basin Bridge station and flooding in the depots maintaining coaches or trains etc has led to the disruption of express train services from Chennai Central station.
It was later brought to light by a senior bureaucrat of Railways that there was water above the rails in Basin Bridge station and yard as the Buckingham canal was full. He added that the trains cannot be received at Central station due to this above reason.
MTC bus services resumed:
Except in those areas that have been severely waterlogged, MTC resumed its bus services in Chennai yesterday. Yesterday, about 80% of MTC services operated.
It was brought to light by an officer that MTC buses were provided for rescue and relief operations in the flooded areas in Chennai. The MTC buses are now playing an amazing role in transporting those from waterlogged places to safe places in the city. On Monday, skeletal bus services were operated by MTC.
