The Southern Railway has issued a notification stating that several train services, including the Vande Bharat train, have been canceled as a precautionary measure due to persistent heavy rains in the southern districts.
Continuous rainfall from last night until the previous night has led to waterlogging around residences in Tirunelveli, Tenkasi, Thoothukudi, and Kanyakumari districts. Rivers and streams are overflowing, causing disruption in the affected areas.
Flight services in Tuticorin have been canceled, and traffic between Thoothukudi and Tiruchendur is severed. A public holiday has been declared in Nellai, Kanyakumari, Thoothukudi, and Tenkasi districts, significantly impacting the daily lives of residents.
As a result of these adverse conditions, the Vande Bharat train service between Nellai-Chennai-Egmore has been canceled in both directions. Southern Railway announced the complete cancellation of the express trains between Nellai-Jamnagar, Gujarat, and Tiruchendur-Palakkad for today.
Furthermore, the Chennai-Nellai express train is currently halted at Kovilpatti railway station, and another express train between Tambaram and Nagercoil is stopped at Kodairod railway station.
The Omni Bus Federation has also declared the suspension of omnibus services to the southern districts due to continuous heavy rains. Government buses will operate based on demand, providing alternative transportation options for commuters in the affected regions.
