The popular private meteorologist Mr. Pradeep John has mentioned in his Twitter that it has become common for the NE monsoon to make their presence felt in the month of January. This has been happening in the last 4 years. He added that even in this year as the normal air pressure would be entering the seas, rains were expected.
For the last 2 days, many areas in TN have been receiving moderate rains. Virudhunagar district has been receiving heavy rains is known. There would be rains for another 2 to 3 days in southern and western parts belonging to Tamil Nadu. Currently, lower atmospheric air circulation is present. The rains now would be different from the usual low pressure or cyclone based rains etc.
Mr Pradeep John revealed that from 7th January night to 8th January evening we could expect 75mm to 150mm rains in districts like Chennai, Thiruvallur, Kancheepuram and Chengalpet etc. In some places, very heavy rains of 150mm to 250mm would be possible.
In the districts like Villupuram, Ranipet, Thiruvannamalai,Delta districts, Cuddalore and Puducherry etc, there would be rains. He concluded that it won`t be like Michaung cyclone based rains but it would lead to water logging.
