Autorickshaws to implement the new fare structure from today

From today onwards the auto rickshaws plying in Tamilnadu have to auto rickshaws implemented the new fare structure brought out by the state government last month. Transport commissioner T Prabhakara Rao on Saturday sent out circulars to all RTOs detailing a comprehensive plan that even includes the time each team will be deployed in the city. There will be 59 teams with four members each. These teams would be placed in strategic positions — wherever there is heavy auto rickshaw traffic. The teams of officials will check if the vehicle has a working meter, if the driver has a rate card and if the engine chassis number corroborates the one on the rate card.
While a handful of auto drivers in the city have started using meters, most of them are still not ready.
