It is now mentioned that all the members mentioned in the family card must compulsorily register their fingerprints at the ration shops or else essential commodities supply would be reduced. This has shocked the public now.
For about 2.23cr family ration cardholders in TN, essential commodities are being provided through 34793 ration shops and this has benefited 7cr51954 beneficiaries who use the family ration cards.
Information is that out of the total mentioned above as many as 6 cr96lakhs47407 people have linked their family ration cards with Aadhaar numbers. It must be taken into account that under the National Food Security Act, the total family cards include 18.61lakh family card holders under Anthiyothaya Annayojana scheme.
In Tamil Nadu, one country-one ration card is being implemented is known. It is noteworthy that in TN the essential food items distribution has been computerised and Aadhar number has been linked AND since the essential food items are distributed through fingerprints registration anyone can buy essential items at any ration shops in TN.
In this scenario, just a few months back, all the members of the family were advised to enrol their fingerprints. Only a certain percentage did while rest dint.
Now, the public are in a state of shock as the ration shop authorities have mentioned that all the family members must compulsorily register their fingerprints or else the essential items would be reduced and names would be removed.
It was pointed out by a staff member that about 6months back the order came out and the public were informed about the finger prints registration of all family members. He added that as most of the people didn`t register their fingerprints again a new order has come out now. This has been now informed to the family ration card holders.
