Centenary celebrations of Indian cinema are being celebrated in a befitting manner this year.
Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa handed over the check for Rs 10 Crore to see. Kalyan, president of South Indian Film Chamber of Commerce when the latter along with other office-bearers of Chamber called on her to request her to inaugurate the four-day event, scheduled to commence on September 21 and distribute awards. The Chief Minister has given this amount to celebrate the centenary in a grand manner. Also, members urged the chief minister to preside over the valedictory function.
Besides the office-bearers of SIFCC, a host of dignitaries including those of Tamil Nadu Film Producers’ Council led by its president A. Kothanda Ramaiah, FEFSI president Ameer, South India Film Artistes Association president R. Sarath Kumar and Tamil Nadu Film Directors Association president Vikraman too called on Jayalalithaa as the secretariat here and invited her.
President Pranab Mukherjee is expected to participate in the valedictory function on September 24. The film fraternity has planned to celebrate the centenary in a grand manner and have accordingly organized to hold a host of events across the city.
