Toll fares have been raised at 42 toll booths across Tamil Nadu effective midnight last night.
Out of the 63 toll plazas managed by the National Highways Authority of Tamil Nadu, fees have been revised for 34 toll booths, with rates increasing from Rs. 5 to Rs. 30 at locations such as Attur, Paranur, Surapattu, Vanagaram, and Vaniyambadi.
Additionally, toll charges have been increased at all 8 toll booths operated by the Tamil Nadu government. On routes like Minjur-Vandalur Outer Ring Road and East Coast Road Uthandi, fees have been raised by Rs. 5 to Rs. 15, with monthly pass fees for various vehicle types increasing from Rs. 100 to Rs. 400.
The toll hike has raised concerns among rental drivers, particularly heavy vehicle drivers, who anticipate significant increases in FASTag recharge amounts ranging from Rs. 20,000 to Rs. 30,000. They fear this will substantially impact freight charges, potentially leading to a 5 to 8 percent rise in the prices of essential commodities, including vegetables. Consequently, they are urging authorities to reconsider the fare hike.
