Send an Emergency Alert with a Slight Touch

An engineering student Sanjeevi L R has developed an android app called RescueMe which is an emergency alert system that does not require you to even unlock your phone to trigger an alarm.

There wouldn’t be enough time to unlock your phone and then alert someone during a robbery or an assault. The app also takes into account this time constraint. All that a person needs to do is press a pattern on the volume button of the phone in a pre-designated sequence and the RescueMe app will send an SMS with the location to the concerned contact, police and medical officer. Even medical emergencies can be handled using this app.

The app also has features that automatically alert one when phone calls are not responded to or when the battery is about to die.

Sanjeevi has designed the app with a lot of options that enable the user to customise it in the way one wants to use the alert system. It lets the user enter emergency contact details, secondary phone numbers and medical information.

The RescueMe app is very helpful especially for women who work late hours and travel alone. Sanjeevi, a final-year student of Rajalakshmi Engineering College, is soliciting the State’s support to make best use of this app. RescueMe is available on the Play Store on devices with Android OS version 2.1.
