100 police assistance booths to be set up

The law and order police will set up 100 police assistance booths in important points including Egmore, Central Station, GH, High Court, CMBT and IIT to help the traffic police to conduct surprise checks to ensure that autorickshaw drivers ply by the meter. Around70% of drivers have calibrated their meters but many drivers do not adhere to the revised fares.
Police Commissioner George said enforcement would be in place until every auto in the city complied with the norms laid down by the state government. Police have made arrangements to monitor the auto drivers through CCTV cameras installed in crowded junctions and sensitive pockets.
