For the past few weeks, public have been getting more trouble from mosquitoes. In many locality of the city, there happens the suspension in the fogging operations for mosquito control due to delay in procurement of the insecticides.

Scarcity of Insecticide affects fogging work in many zones, stated by Chennai Corporation. Also the civic body announced that the delay in the procurement of the insecticides were due to the recent administrative revamp at Chennai Corporation.

Presently, the Regional Deputy Commissioners have been managing the procurement of the insecticide. In the earlier management system, the procurement of insecticide has been handled by the Senior Public Health Department residing at the Ripon building. The new administrative structure as per the Corporation’s proposal has been cleared by the State Government last month.

As of now the Chennai Corporation has been using the Bio-Insecticide such as ‘Pyrethrum’ for fogging operations. Conversely, the councilors argued that the mosquitoes have augmented the resistance to this kind of insecticide.

Soon, the Corporation will revisit the impact of pyrethrum and choose for alternative eco friendly insecticide for trial period before using the pyrethrum again.
