New Government Proposal to reduce the Traffic congestion in Chennai

In the latest budget, it has been announced that a new proposal will be implemented to reduce the traffic congestion.

The Finance Minister’s announcement

In the 2nd stage of implementation of Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission, 1,000 new buses will be procured removing all the very old ones.

In 2014-15, a subsidy for Diesel for Rs. 500 Crores has been allotted.

The state government will be implementing a new intelligent traffic system in Chennai. The 1st stage of preparing detailed report is in progress. This is plan is expected to provide the right solution to the existing traffic congestion problems.

The monorail project has been reviewed and revised. Rs. 200 Crores has been allotted for this project in the 2014-15 budget.

The proposal is expected to increase the transport efficiency for the easy usage by public. The unified communication system will have GPS facility. The movement of the transport will be tracked after installation of GPS in all vehicles. In the 1st stage, 500 bus stops will be mapped and data on the time and movement of buses will be conveyed. This will be extended to all bus stops in the city.
