Mahasivarathri is one of the popular festivals in Lord annamalaiyar temple at Thiruvannamalai.
One of the miracles of Lord Siva leading to Mahasivarathri happened at Thiruvannamalai.
When Lord Vishnu and Lord Brahma had a debate on who is superior, Lord Siva too k the form of ‘Lingothbhava’ with no traces of beginning or end. This day is being celebrated as Mahasivarathri.
This year, Sivarathri falls on 27th February. Special decoarions and prayers will be done for the God and the Goddess, the temple premises will be opened by early morning. Images of the God will be made with flowers, salt, and colors from the ‘Rajagopuram’ up to the 3rd corridor.
1,00,000 lamp-lighting will be done in the evening by 6 O’Clock. 1st stage prayer will be done by 8.30 PM, 2nd by 11.00 PM, 3rd at 2.00 Am, and the 4th at 4.00 Am.
Special prayers will be performed at 12.00 midnight in the God’s abide at the sanctum sanctorum. Prayer will be performed with lilac flowers.
With lakhs of devotees expected to attend, special arrangements have made. To facilitate quick ‘Darshan’, other routines have been cancelled for 2 days.
Religious chant of ‘Thevaram’, Bhrathanatyam, Puppet shows, and religious discourses will be performed.
