Dissatisfaction prevails with the interim railway budget presented recently by the Railway Minister, Mallikarjun Kharge. As the budget had not focused on the safety aspects of the public in spite of its increasing numbers, the public are entirely disappointed. There are a number of safety measures expected or needed. The list is endless, but out of all those, maintenance of coaches stands on top. There have been continual requests and demands from the public and political parties for making improvements in the condition of train compartments, but as of now, none of those are done.
The coaches are fully rusted and look ugly. Broken windows, poorly maintained toilets and torn seats leave the passengers yuck! Few of the southern railway trains were inspected. This includes: Mannai express, Rockfort express and Guruvayur express. All these had the above faults and no improvement is found.
