Chennai city will soon get a centre of adventure water sport in a 30-acre land on the Marina beach. Speaking to an official from Tamil Nadu Tourism Development Corporation (TTDC), he stated the corporation is in preliminary stage of discussion with PWD for land allocation and targets to finalize it soon. “This will be similar to marina in Kochi. It will serve as berthing place for yachts and small ships. We may conduct water sports like sailing competition or regattas here. Small ships from here to Mamallapuram and Puducherry can also be availed,” he added.
For many years now, TTDC has been taking steps to promote adventure sports in the city. With the public private partnership, it created adventure sports at Island groups and Mudaliarkuppam that attracted number of visitors. The sports include: reverse bungee jumping, rock wall climbing, dart board, paint ball, net cricket, squad bike, grease pole climbing, etc. Here, they charge Rs 600 per individual for water skiing and Rs 1200 per person for a 5 minute para-sailing.
