The present Chennai Police Commissioner Office is the eight-stored building on the Poonamallee High Road which has been constructed at a cost of Rs 25 Crore; looks like a big hall without any partitions in it and many people are coming to file their grievances.
Many people, especially women, who pop in the new office to file their petitions, find it very difficult to convey their complaints facing the concerned officers due to deficiency of privacy.
Several senior officers, who are expected to occupy separate rooms, are now seated in a single hall. Assistant commissioners of police with the central crime branch (CCB), an additional deputy commissioner of police and a deputy commissioner of police are sharing a single room.
For the worst case, the deputy commissioner of police has been occupying a room with the police inspectors, and his camp clerk is sitting outside his room.
The partition work is getting delayed, as government is expecting the contractor has to spend Rs.50 lakhs well in advance to carry out the partition work in the whole building.
Even though the group of contractors from the TamilNadu Police Housing Corporation says that, they are opposing this move; as it is a bulk amount and they added that the tender should be opened with minimum players in it.
