Chennai peripheral road from Mamallapuram in the south up to Ennore, connecting Walajabad and Sriperumbudur will have its final detailed project report by or before July 2014. This road is exclusively laid in order to facilitate the movement of trucks (carrying goods) that cross the southern regions towards ennore port. Asking about the budget, K.Sadanand, assistant chief engineer of the state highway department said it to be a sum of ten crore.
Speaking at a seminar organized by Japanese consulate here on Wednesday, he gave a brief on the importance of Intelligent Transport System (ITS). “When the Chennai peripheral road is complete, vehicles will not have to take the path within city,” he stated. He also added that the peripheral road will be found outside the Chennai bypass road and Outer Ring Road (ORR).
This project is one of the plans sketched under Chennai Metropolitan Development Authority (CMDA). ORR is also soon expected to face severe congestion. Steps should be taken well before the situation arises, he alerted.
