CMRL Looms JICA – Fund for Phase II Metro Rail Project

For the Chennai Metro Rail Phase II project, CMRL got its final approval for the alignment of the three corridors from the state government. Also Chennai Metro Rail (CMRL) plans to loom the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) for the fiscal assistance of the Phase II Chennai Metro Rail Project, said a senior official.

In this phase II project, the three corridors will connect Madhavaram and Light House (17 km), Koyambedu and Injambakkam (27 km) and Madhavaram and Perumbakkam (32 km) respectively.

The CMRL will be a conducting a meeting on April with higher officials of the State Government and the members of the JICA to discuss about the alignment of the Phase II.

According to the source, the officials stated that, the Phase I project have been completed at a cost of Rs.14, 600 Crores including 59% from JICA funds, 20%c from Central Government and the rest with the State government. 

And now, the Phase II is expected to furnish at a cost Rs.36, 000 Crore. It will surround the whole underground at around 76Km of the city. Till completion, the project will take nearly 10 years.The construction cost alone will estimate roughly to be Rs.500 Crore per Kilometer, senior official said.
