Parliamentary elections are scheduled to be conducted in Tamil Nadu on 24th April.
Voters’ Identity card or the slip given by the Election Commission must be shown for exercising the voting. Even if these are shown but the names are missing in the list of voters, voting will not be allowed.Camps were conducted on 9st & 16th March for inclusion of new names in the voters’ list.
During the camp conducted on 9th March, 9,95,000 applications were received for inclusion in the voters’ list in the 60,418 polling booths for Tamil Nadu.
A second camp was conducted on 16th March for those who missed out on the 9th March camp. 2,806 applications were received for inclusion in the voters’ list. These names will be included in the voters’ list after verification to facilitate voting.
For the people who missed out on these 2 camps, application forms are available in the Taluk Offices or Corporation ward offices. These can be filled up and submitted before 25th March. Request for inclusion in the voters’ list can be done ‘on-line’ as well before 25th march.
So, today (25th march) is the last day for inclusion of new names in the voters’ list.The election commission has announced the facility only for applying for inclusion of name in the voters’ list.
The services for getting voter ID cards, Change of address intimation, and removal of names are temporarily suspended. These will be reintroduced only after the election.There are 5,37,00,000 voters in Tamil Nadu.
