The Directorate of Advertising and Visual Publicity (DAVP) is organizing exhibitions at several locations across the city with the intention of creating awareness about the importance of the public casting their votes.
On Tuesday, one of these exhibitions was inaugurated at the Chennai Mofussil Bus Terminus in Koyambedu by Chennai Corporation commissioner Vikram Kapur in the presence of district collector E. Sundaravalli.
A total of 28 panels display information on when the first General Elections was held, the importance of voting, the process of casting a vote including the operation of the electronic voting machine and many other interesting aspects.
Colourful photographs, depicting the elderly casting their vote and underlining the importance of women exercising their democratic right, form part of the content on the panels.
Sources in the DAVP said they had plans to organize exhibitions at Marina beach, and Chennai Central and Egmore railway stations, too.
