Metro Rail Project - Test run of Emergency Diesel Engine

The test run of the emergency diesel engine, imported from America, was undertaken at the Koyambedu workshop.

Test run was conducted for 2 diesel engines. 4 coaches were attached to each diesel engine for testing. The test run was between Koyambedu workshop to Koyambedu Railway station.

The special diesel engine, meant for emergency operation, imported from America, was shipped and arrived at Chennai last December. It was kept at the Koyambedu Metro Rail workshop.

The 700 HP (horsepower) diesel engines will be used for taking the metro trains to the scheduled places or scheduled stations and conducting test-runs. It can function even with no electric power being available.

The corridor between Koyambedu & St. Thomas Mount of the Metro Rail Project is expected to be run for the public by the end of this year.

The 6th & 7th trains reached Chennai from Brazil on 31st march. They were taken to the Koyambedu Metro Rail workshop on 1st April.

A total of 42 trains, 9 from Brazil, and 33 from Tada, Andhra Pradesh are tobe procured. 5 trains have arrived from Brazil and 2 from Andhra Pradesh.
