Chennaites can enjoy the beauty of Ripon Buildings even at night as the city corporation plans to install permanent illumination.

On Tuesday, three private electrical companies engaged in illumination work made a presentation to the civic body about the proposed project. The lights will be installed on the 100-year old heritage building after the Lok Sabha elections.

Corporation officials say static lighting, spotlights and beamers will be installed in the building in a few months. Sources say permanent illumination will enhance its Indo-Saracenic architecture and add to its historical significance.

On April 2, 21 buildings in the city, including Ripon Buildings, were temporarily illuminated in blue to mark World Autism Awareness Day.

Another corporation official said the much delayed restoration work of Ripon Buildings was in full swing and was expected to be completed in a few months.
