As the project on East Coast Road widening process slows down, residents and traffic experts put forward to the government to embark the construction work on a lofty highway in as a replacement for the planned six-lane field.
This project can involve LB Road near the telephone exchange and
can land beyond Neelankarai, as the road is wide enough here. This six km lengthy,
four lane corridors can instead presume the traffic congestion and residents can
employ the service lanes, says the city’s traffic connoisseur.
This project may cost around Rs.400 to
500 Crores, which is more or less parallel to the current proposal, he added.
Additionally, similar to the resident’s proposal to the
government regarding the elevated highway on ECR, residents also made alike implications
for the equivalent Old Mahabalipuram Road (OMR).
In replacement of the current projected elevated road,
residents are hinting flyovers to be constructed at key junctions like Madhya
Kailash, Tidel Park, SRP Tools, Perungudi Lifeline, Thoraipakkam Radial Road
and Sholinganallur.
Alternative suggestions from a retired urban planner said that, as the ECR runs near the shore, it is not advisable to construct an elevated road near to it. In case of OMR, it is nice to widen the Mass Rapid Transit System to Siruseri instead to go in for an elevated road, he added.
