Rajnikanth’s Kochadayan, having got its exemption from entertainment tax will weigh lesser by 15 per cent from its audience, thanks to the order by Madras high court. On Thursday, it was said not to collect any entertainment tax in the ticket rate of Kochadayan. However, the court remains silent about making intimations about the deduction of tax paid by audiences who have booked ticket in advance through online or direct booking at theatres.
According to the Tamil Nadu Entertainment Tax Act 1939, every newly released film ought to pay entertainment tax of 10 per cent. However, aiming to encourage the use of Tamil titles for movies, from the year 2006, Tamil movies got an exemption to that those movies which are named in Tamil itself can have exemption in tax.
Among the recent Tamil movies released, ‘Kochadayan’ has got a tax exemption which audiences are free to enjoy now.
