Razing down buildings for Chennai Metro Rail construction

Parts near to Chennai Central station are getting razed down by Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) as a part of the department’s ongoing constructions.

Further to a prolonged battle with the owners, two hostels opposite to the central statio were demolished. The nod for acquisition of this place was recently given out by the Madras High Court. According to the CMRL officials, construction works will commence soon here.

Speaking to one of the officials, he says the land is handed over to a contractor and that construction would commence upon demolishing the entire structure. This station wide spread over 70000 sq.m will be the largest underground Metro Rail Station in the city, Chennai.

This land acquired by the land will be used to set up ventilation shaft which is a kind of air passage that facilitates ventilation underground. It may also house supplementary equipments for various functioning in stations. Additionally, this may also have one out of six entry or exists of the Chennai Central Metro station.
