Confiscation of 427 Auto’s – Charge of Seeking Addition Fee above Meter

In Chennai, about 427 autos have been seized by the police department, since for not operating the meter boxes and collecting additional fee above meter.  

New rates have been fixed by the TamilNadu government for the autos running across the Chennai city.

Until they get the free GPS assisted meter boxes, auto drivers and owners are allowed to function their old meter boxes which needs to be modified according to the new tariff rates.

As per the new tariff rates, in order to monitor the fee collected from the commuters and the proper functioning of the meter boxes, many officers are involved in a series of inquiries.

These inquiry procedures have been put on hold these days, due to the poll. On its continuation, these scrutinizing procedures have been again started from 24 May by the traffic police and Regional Transport Officers.

During the observation, for the malpractices in not functioning the meters and over charges above the meter reading, nearly 427 autos have been seized by the field officers.
