Shop at Metro railway stations, a creative move by CMRL

Alandur metro rail station will soon turn a place for commuters to park and shop at a two-floor building spread over a 1.18 lakh sq ft area. The Chennai Metro Rail Ltd has plans to set up commercial hubs in five elevated stations. This will allow people to get into the place for a happy shopping, watch movie and dine out.

With the commencement of metro rail services at Koyambedu-Alandur nearing, CMRL has now got into ideas to set up two or nine floor buildings and rend them out or give it for lease to set up huge shopping malls, retail stores and other similar establishments. They have eyed on Alandur, Ekkattuthangal, CMBT and Arumbakkam for now. There will be more floors at Ashok Nagar station.

The feasibility of the plan will be studied by consultants who will be appointed very soon. Necessary suggestions will also be made and building designs will be set up soon, said an official from CMRL.
