3 smart cities to be located in Tamil Nadu!

The central minister for Housing & Urban Development, Mr. Venkaiah Naidu, informed that there are bright prospects of 3 ‘smart cities’ to be formed in the state of Tamil Nadu. The locations are likely to be decided in a day or two.

The minister inaugurated a seminar on ‘Smart cities in Tamil Nadu’ sponsored by CII (Confederation of Indian Industries) in Chennai yesterday (29th January).

It is an important necessity and step to create ‘smart cities’ in order to prevent overcrowding in the existing metros & cities. The scheme of smart cities was announced with this main purpose.

The scheme is not about finalising the location and building commercial complexes and star hotels. On the other smart cities project is about providing houses for the public who did not own in the residing cities and for the public who are emigrating from rural areas to cities.

13 Countries including USA, Japan, Australia, Sweden, and Singapore have come forward to offer assistance on this project.

Japan has offered assistance to set up a smart city in Ponneri near Chennai.

3 smart cities are proposed to be set up in each state.

A meeting on this regard is being organised by the Housing Development Boards Secretaries of all states at New Delhi on 30th & 31st January to select the locations of smart cities in each state.

After the decision on location of smart cities is taken, it will be sent for approval of the cabinet ministers and official announcements will be made.
