The Supreme Court of India has sent notices to the central and state governments to reply regarding the possibility of registering all FIRs (First Information Report) on the website within 24 hours.
On behalf of the Federation of Young Indian advocates, a petition was submitted in the supreme Court.
The petition requested that an order should be released to update all the FIRs registered in all the police stations throughout the country on the authoritative website of the Police Department within 24 hours.
FIR is on behalf of the public. However, it is not easily possible for the public to obtain this from the police department.
So, if a copy of the FIR is registered and released on the website of the police department, it would become simpler and easier for the public to access and download the same if required.
The Supreme Court ordered the central and state governments to reply regarding this procedure.
It is worth noting in this juncture that the Himachal Pradesh High Court and Allahabad High Court had ordered the respective state governments to confirm that all FIRs are uploaded on the website of the Police Department.
