1 year gets completed today (Friday, 22nd September) since the late Chief Minister Jayalalithaa was admitted in Apollo Hospital.
Jayalalithaa encountered a variety of challenges and complications in her political career in her party after the death of MGR and still managed to bring the entire party under her strict control. She earns the credit for enrolling the party members to 1.5 Crores.
Jayalalithaa captured the power with a majority in the elections conducted in 2011. Earlier, during the parliamentary elections conducted in 2014, she captured the maximum number of seats with 50 MPs and earned the 3rd largest party represented in the parliament.
She assumed the post of the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister for the 6th time in the year 2016 and during her 1st address in the legislative assembly after this, she boasted that AIADMK would exist for more than 100 years even after her.
For the public. She brought a number of concessions, such as 100 units free electricity in order to reduce the burden of EB charges, closing 500 TASMAC shops, and waiver of farmers’ loans.
Jayalalithaa, as the Chief Minister, last participated in the inaugural function of the Chennai Metro Service between Chennai Airport and Little Mount. She inaugurated this metro service through a video conferencing facility from the Government Secretariat on 21st September 2016. That was the last day when the public watched her on TV. It was the last function she participated as the state government head.
The very next day, on 22nd September, she took ill suddenly and was admitted to the Apollo Hospital in Chennai Greams Road. She continued to be in the hospital and after 74 days, it was announced that she was dead in the night of 5th December. Thus, 1 year is getting completed today since the late Chief Minister was admitted to Apollo Hospital.
Since her passing away, her party AIADMK has faced a lot of turbulence, power changes and transactions, and a series of political twists and turns. So, 22nd September will remain an important historical day in the history of, especially AIADMK party.
