Chennai revels in too many nominally priced transportation modes

As there are various modes of transportation for Chennaites, residents here have a lot of transportation options. Either of the airport terminals have got taxi kiosks and there are cab-based services available in the remaining regions of the city where we have buses, metro rail, suburban rail, etc. all of which are easy and cheap options as set against metropolitan cities in India.

The daily mode of transport is bus! It has got about 5.5 million daily patronage in spite of hike in fare that provides commutation at very nominal range.

The minimum fare to travel in Metropolitan Transportation Corporation is Rs 4 which was previously Rs 3. In the other metropolitan cities, the minimum fare is far higher. For instance, in Mumbai, the minimum fare is Rs 8, in Bangalore, it is Rs 5, said an official.

A regular commuter says suburban train is the other most common transportation means where the ticket prices start from 5. The two main reasons for preferring this mode are the good availability of connectivity and nominal pricing of tickets. In spite of below-average quality, the prices being pocket-friendly makes the mode of transport preferable.

Furthermore, the much-awaited, partially underground rapid transit system that got opened in the late days of 2016 also serves to be an excellent transportation mode where tickets are priced of the range 10 and 50.
