It is already implemented in many of the other metro stations in India, like Delhi and Bengaluru. Even the provision of Wireless Internet Connection in trains are considered by the Railway Departments in some selected trains.

The construction of the Central Metro station forming a three hub links within the city is almost nearing the completion. The CMRL sources confirmed that rail lines between Central, Egmore, Nehru Park along with the Anna Salai, DMS, Saidapet lines are in the final process of trial and verification.

The latest update from CMRL states that the Organization is looking for private Telecommunication Companies to install free Wi-Fi in the Metro Stations. Some of the metro lines in Chennai are in the final stages of completion and CMRL will soon announce the details of the company which will take over the Internet Provision Services in the Metro Stations. Within the month of June the Free Wi-Fi services will be opened for public and CMRL expects an increase in number of commuters after the installation of free Wi-Fi routers.

Once the Commission of Railway Safety ensures the trial runs between these lines and after the CMRL completes the automatic installations of various applications like elevators, escalators, ticketing machines and Solar panel connections the Central Metro Hub will be opened for Commuters.
