The farmers belonging to Tamil Nadu to get 1000 solar powered pump sets

This is a superb piece of news for the farmers of the state of Tamil Nadu. The chief minister of TN, Mr. E. Palaniswami, announced that government would provide as many as 500 solar powered pump sets to the farmers belonging to non-delta regions with 90 % subsidy at a cost of amount of Rs 50 crores.

As a part of Kuruvai crop package, the farmers belonging to Cauvery delta regions have already been provided with 500 solar powered. So now a total of 1000 solar powered pump sets would be given to the farmers of TN. The state of TN has got huge solar power generation potential and this plan to give 1000 solar powered pump sets would help ryots or tenant farmers to utilize the solar power. Under the solar energy policy 2012, the government has provided as many as 3112 solar pump sets plus 181 solar panels at a total cost of Rs 117.24 crores in TN at a subsidised cost. To those giving up free electricity for agriculture, the government of TN would provide solar pump sets at a subsidy of 90 %. The chief minister has become cynosure of many eyes with his few announcements regarding horticulture and farming sectors.

The chief minister of TN, Mr. E. Palaniswami, later hinted on luring more young people into farming. He spoke about the introduction of a 2 year diploma programme in Horticulture. This diploma programme would be present in the Krishnagiri and Dindigul branches of Tamil Nadu Agricultural University or TNAU. There would be an intake of as many as 50 students each.
