As per tradition, it is annual routine to perform Jeshtabhishekham to Lord Venkateswara at the Tirupathi temple during the Telugu calendar month of Jeshta before the day of star Jeshta occurs.
Accordingly, this year also, Jeshtabhishekham is scheduled to be performed from 24th June to 26th June at the Tirupathi temple.
On the occasion of the Jeshtabhishkham, the golden shield adorning the deity of Lord Malayappa or Venkateswara will be removed on 18th June.
Subsequently, as soon as the Homam and Abhishekham are performed on the deity, the deity will be adorned with the golden shield again. The deity with the golden shield will be taken on a procession on the 4 main corridor streets of the temple to offer Darshan to lakhs of devotees.
On the 2nd day, 25th June, the deity of the Lord Malayappa Swami will be adorned with the pearl shield and then taken on a procession on the 4 main corridor streets of the temple to offer Darshan to lakhs of devotees.
On the 3rd day, 26th June, the deity of the Lord Malayappa Swami will be adorned with the golden shield and then taken on a procession on the 4 main corridor streets of the temple to offer Darshan to lakhs of devotees.
This golden shield adorning the deity of the Lord on the commemoration day of the Jeshtabhishekham will not be removed for the rest of the year.
Due to the occasion of the Jeshtabhishekham, the spring festival, known as ‘Vasantha Utsavam’, the special Pooja on 25th June, The Ashta Thalapathi Padmaradhana Seva on 26th June, Kalyana Utsavam, Oonjal Sevai, Arjitha Brahmotsavam and Vasantha Utsavam all stand cancelled.
During the 3 days of Jeshtabhishekham, the general routine of Thomala Sevai, performed from 3.30 AM to 4.30 AM will be performed without admission to the devotees.
