As predicted by Skymet Weather, Chennai received few spells of rain in the last 24 hours. In fact, the adjoining regions have also recorded some spells of rain. In the last 24 hours from 8:30 am on Tuesday, Nungambakkam observatory of Chennai recorded 11 mm of rains. In the same span of time, Meenambakkam observatory witnessed 3 mm of rains.

These rains occurred due to the feeble trough which was extending from West Central Bay of Bengal to Tamil Nadu coast. As per weathermen, we expect Chennai rains to appear in isolated pockets but for another 24 hours only. Thereafter, the weather will become dry.

However, these rains failed to bring any relief from warm and sultry weather. As the Monsoon rains occurred during night hours, therefore it did not affect the day temperatures.

During this time of the year, rain activity usually occurs during the late afternoon and evening hours mostly. Thus, weather over the city will be warm, humid and uneasy. The maximum temperatures would settle between 35°C and 36°C. Meanwhile, the minimums would settle between 27°C and 28°C.

During the Southwest Monsoon season, Tamil Nadu including Chennai does not record much rain as it falls under rain shadow area. The city records 60% of its rainfall during the Northeast Monsoon season which spans from October to December.
