Some handy household tips

  • Mix some small amount of mustard oil in water. Dip a soft cloth in this mixture and use it for cleaning/wiping wooden furniture. It will give a result as though it has been varnished.

  • Spray some tobacco powder on the bookshelves. Insects won’t enter.

  • Use the skin peeled after boiling potato to clean/wipe the mirrors. They will glisten.

  • For eggs to have a longer shelf-life, rub a small quantity of refined oil on the egg-shell.

  • Rub your palms with a few drops of cooking oil before cleaning fish – the foul smell will be gone.

  • Keep a few pieces of clove in the sugar container – ants won’t enter.

  • In case the children’s socks become loose, fix a rubber-band of suitable size at the ends of the socks and roll the ends of the sock over the rubber band. This will hold the socks tight.

  • Spray some Eau-de-cologne on the incense sticks which do not emit strong good smell before lighting them – the area will really smell good of perfume.

  • In case you are having only very less quantity of ingredients to grind in a mixie, cover the top of the mixie with a plate with a hand while grinding  - the grinding job will be through.

  • In case your white-coloured cell phone appears dirty, clean it well with a little nail polish remover – the white will glisten.

  • In case the plastic pot in the house becomes unusable, cut the top portion and use it as a garbage bin or for growing plants.

  • When cleaning the gas stove with soap water, remember to clean the connecting pipes outside as well. The tube will remain clean and fresh for a longer period.

  • Use a small quantity of the furniture paint and bush it on the surface of the winnow and dry for some time – this will help keep the winnow appear fresh and clean for a longer period. Also, insects won’t enter.

  • Keep a piece of chalk or charcoal in the toolbox. This will absorb the moisture in the toolbox and prevent the tools from rusting.

  • Rub the inside of the footwear straps with wax before using – this will ensure that there is no bite from the footwear.

  • While cleaning the wardrobe or the cloth shelf, keep a few pieces of used mosquito mats on the surface of the shelf, cover with the newspaper sheet and then arrange the clothes. This will ensure that insects do not enter at least for a year.

  • In case some holes are formed in the net-lawn used in the windows/doors/etc., paste them with a cut piece of cello tape.

  • For the plant of curry leaves, use sour curd or buttermilk as a Fertilizer – this will help healthy growth. The water used for the final cleaning of the curd container can also be used this way.

  • Do some artful embroidery work on the old mosquito nets used for the young children and use them as a TV cover.
