The officials of the Department of Commercial Tax have informed that the e-way bills are mandatory for the goods transported in buses as well.
The system of obtaining the ‘e-way’ bill online, which permits the transportation of goods throughout the country between the different states worth over Rs. 50000, was implemented during April.
Also, the e-way bill has been made mandatory from June for carrying goods worth more than Rs. 1 Lakh from one state to another.
In this situation, it has been announced that ‘e-way’ bills are mandatory even for the goods transported through buses.
The Officials of the Tamil Nadu Commercial Tax Department explained in this regard that most company proprietors and the people sending goods are under the impression that e-way bills are mandatory only for the goods sent through trucks/lorries- this is absolutely wrong. E-way bills are mandatory whether goods are transported on buses, lorries, or trucks and other vehicles.
Complaints have been received that several people have indulged in transporting goods through buses without the mandatory e-way bills. Now, this is being vigilantly monitored.
In case goods are caught in the buses without the requisite e-way bills, a penalty which is more than the worth of goods will be levied.
