Imagine going in the bus in the cities of Chennai, Coimbatore, Madurai etc and getting informed regarding the bus stops etc. Sound’s superb isn’t it!!
Soon the passengers travelling in the city buses in Chennai, Coimbatore and Madurai would have public address system announcing the updates of the bus stops. The transport department has recently introduced conductor less buses on the mofussil routes and now this plan to introduce public address system in the city buses is superb.
During the rush hour the city buses in the cities are full of passengers and these passengers face trouble in getting down at their places of destination. In the state owned buses, many tourists also travel and these tourists fully depend on the conductors regarding their destination and the direction in which the bus travels etc. The people belonging to the city of Madurai can feel happy and proud as this public address system would be introduced first in the buses running in Madurai only. On Thursday, 2nd August 2018, Mr. Davidar issued a government order in this regard.
According to the order, to facilitate the commuters to know the next bus stops, a public address system would be introduced in Madurai city buses.
It is worthy to note that MTC or Chennai Metropolitan Transport Corporation has got a fleet capacity of 3200 buses and it caters to as many as 37 lakh commuters in a single day in Chennai and in suburban places. As many as 6.25 lakh commuters travel in a day by TNSTC or Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation and there are 810 buses belonging to this TNSTC. In Coimbatore the fleet strength of TNSTC is 1257 and it helps as many as 9.75 lakh commuters in a day to reach their places of destination.
A senior official belonging to transport department expressed his views and spoke about the presence of 3lakh floating population in Madurai in a day. He also spoke about how the patronage for public address system in Madurai would be studied first and then this public address system would be extended to other cities.
It is now brought out that the above government order has authorised the managing director of TNSTC, Madurai, to initiate the tender process so that this public address system facility could be implemented in the city buses. As per the sources it is clear that GPS enabled real time public address system would be made and it would be decided depending about the feasibility.
